hobbyist Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how hobbyist ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the hobbyist mobile application, any web version, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

The Service is operated by Andrew Raymond Kelly. If you have questions, use Send feedback in the app (Settings), or email support@tcktd.live.

This Privacy Policy is incorporated into our Terms of Service. It describes our data practices but does not expand our liability beyond what the Terms allow.

1) Information We Collect
We collect information from and about you in the following categories:

A) Account and profile information
- Email address and authentication identifiers (such as login provider identifiers from Google or Apple Sign In, when you use those options).
- Profile details you choose to provide (such as username, display name, profile avatar, or profile banner).

B) Hobby and session data you create
- Hobbies you create, sessions (timestamps, durations), and other session details (including hobby-specific fields you enter, such as routes, scores, or catch counts).
- Notes or other text you enter.
- Trophy/progress data generated by the Service based on your activity.

C) Photos and media you choose to upload (optional)
- Session photos or videos, hobby images, and profile images you upload. These may be stored in cloud storage so they can sync across devices.

D) Notifications (optional)
- Notification preferences (including push, weekly recap, annual recap, and hobby goal reminders when you enable them).
- If enabled and supported, a push token and device/platform metadata used to deliver server-sent notifications through Expo push services.
- Some reminders (including weekly goal nudges and active-session movement alerts on iOS) may be scheduled locally on your device using data already in the app.

E) Device location (optional)
- If you enable Session route tracking in Settings, the app may collect GPS coordinates while an active timed session is running to record a route map and attach location context to that session. On supported platforms, collection may continue in the background while a session timer is active and you have granted the required location permissions.
- If you enable Active session reminders on iOS (Settings → System permissions), the app may use background location while an outdoor session timer is running to detect when you leave the area and send a local reminder. This feature requires notification permission and Always (or When In Use + Always) location permission.
- If you grant location access, the app may use your device location to suggest nearby places or fetch weather when you add location context to a session log.
- Location, route, and weather-related data are stored with your session data and are not shared with other hobbyist users.
- To fetch weather or place suggestions, the app may send coordinates or place names from your device to our weather and geocoding providers (see Section 4).

F) Diagnostics and log data
We and our service providers may automatically collect:
- Device and app information (e.g., device model, OS version, app version, language, time zone).
- Log data (e.g., IP address, timestamps, crash logs, and app events).
- Approximate location derived from IP address (depending on provider configuration).

We may use Sentry (when enabled) to collect crash reports and performance diagnostics to identify and fix bugs. We configure Sentry to avoid sending default personally identifiable information where supported, but diagnostic data may still include pseudonymous identifiers (such as your account user ID), device/OS information, and technical logs needed to diagnose issues.

G) Support communications
- Information you provide when contacting support (for example, messages you send through the in-app feedback form in Settings, or emails you send to support@tcktd.live), including the category you select and basic technical metadata we attach to help investigate issues (such as app version and device platform).

H) Software updates (including over-the-air)
The Service may download and install updates over the air (for example, through Expo EAS Update). Update checks may involve technical information such as app version, runtime version, and device identifiers needed to deliver the correct bundle. These updates change app behavior and are subject to our Terms of Service and this Policy.

I) On-device surfaces (optional)
- If you enable the Lock Screen timer (Live Activity), add a home-screen widget, or pair an Apple Watch companion (when available), hobby names, timer status, and summary stats you already track may appear outside the main app on your device or watch. Watch timer controls communicate between your phone and watch over Apple's on-device connectivity services. You can disable Live Activity in Settings, remove widgets from your home screen, or unpair the watch app from your device.
- If you enable Face ID & fingerprint lock in Settings, the app uses your device biometric APIs (Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint) to unlock hobbyist on this device. Biometric templates stay on your device and are not sent to hobbyist servers. You can turn this off in Settings → Account.

J) mapTime (separate app; not part of hobbyist)
The hobbyist app does not include mapTime background location tracking. mapTime is a separate mobile app. If you install and use mapTime with the same account, that app may collect precise GPS and related data under its own privacy policy on our shared Supabase project. Deleting your hobbyist account also removes mapTime data tied to that account.

2) How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and secure the Service.
- Authenticate you and sync your data across devices.
- Store and display your content (including photos and videos, if you upload them).
- Deliver notifications (including optional weekly and annual recaps and hobby goal reminders) if you enable them.
- Record session route data when you enable Session route tracking, and evaluate movement for active-session reminders when you enable that iOS feature.
- Look up weather or place information for session logs when you use those features.
- Monitor, debug, and improve the Service, including through crash reporting when enabled.
- Prevent fraud, enforce these Terms, and protect the rights and safety of the Service and others.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
- Deliver and verify over-the-air software updates.

3) Legal Bases (EEA, UK, and Switzerland)
Where applicable privacy law requires a legal basis, we process personal data based on: (a) performance of a contract with you (providing the Service); (b) our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Service (balanced against your rights); (c) your consent where required (for example, optional push notifications or location features); and (d) compliance with legal obligations.

4) How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information:

A) With service providers (processors)
We use vendors to operate the Service and they process data on our behalf, such as:
- Supabase (authentication, database, storage).
- Google and Apple (sign-in), when you choose those login options — each provider processes information under its own privacy policy.
- Open-Meteo (weather and place geocoding lookups when you use location or weather features on session logs).
- Map providers (such as Apple Maps or Google Maps through react-native-maps) when session route maps are displayed.
- Expo services (push notification delivery, over-the-air update delivery, and related services).
- Sentry (crash reporting, when enabled).

B) For legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect users, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect our rights and property.

C) Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

D) With your direction
We may share information when you choose to share content externally through your device or third-party tools.

5) Data Retention
We retain information as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service and for legitimate business purposes, such as security, dispute resolution, enforcement, and legal compliance.

If you delete your account through the Service, we will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify associated account data, subject to limited retention for backups, audit logs, and legal compliance.

6) Your Choices
- Account information: You can review and update some profile details in the app.
- Notifications: You can toggle push and recap preferences in Settings and manage OS-level notification permissions.
- Location: You can disable Session route tracking in Settings, turn off nearby location or active-session reminders in Settings → System permissions, and revoke location permission in your device system settings.
- Lock Screen timer, widgets, and Apple Watch: You can disable Live Activity in Settings, remove home-screen widgets from your device, or unpair the watch app.
- Account deletion: You can request deletion using the in-app delete-account flow.
- Privacy rights requests: See Sections 11 and 12. You may also email support@tcktd.live.

7) Security
We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8) Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact support@tcktd.live or use Send feedback in Settings.

9) International Transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, including the United States, depending on where we and our service providers operate. We take steps designed to ensure appropriate protections for such transfers as required by law.

10) U.S. State Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know what personal information we collect, access or delete it, correct inaccuracies, and opt out of certain processing. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights. To make a request, email support@tcktd.live. We may verify your request (for example, by confirming control of your account). You may use an authorized agent where your state's law allows.

11) EEA, UK, and Switzerland
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent. You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise rights, contact support@tcktd.live.

12) Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy in the Service and update the "Last updated" date above. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice (for example, in-app).

13) Contact
Questions or requests? You can use Send feedback in the app (Settings), which lets you send a message without leaving hobbyist. You can also email support@tcktd.live.
